Are you looking for a little more heart and soul from your next holiday?

Living in Australia today, it’s sometimes easy to forget just how lucky we are, but it’s so valuable and important to try and help those less fortunate than ourselves when we can.

You could volunteer to help reintegrate elephants back into their natural environment on your next holiday to Thailand.

So for your next holiday, why not combine that African safari you’ve always wanted to go on with some animal conservation, or that beach trip to Thailand with some community work.

Here's a few examples to get you inspired:

Women’s rescue centre in Nairobi - Love Volunteers

This one is just for the girls.

You’ll be helping to heal and help young women who have suffered many unthinkable traumas, including sexual assault from having been sent to work too young.

Day to day, you’ll help these women develop sustainable life skills that will make sure they’re set up for a better life, such as English, gardening, hairdressing and cooking.

Volunteer with elephants in Thailand - GVI Australia

Travel into the breathtaking mountains of northern Thailand, in Chiang Mai, to help reintegrate elephants from tourist parks back into their natural habitats.

You can choose to spend from one week up to 12 on the project, the cost varying the longer you stay. You'll spend the majority of your time in the surrounding community, boarding at guest houses with locals to the area.

This project was listed number one in GVI’s list of programs in 2017 and they’ve been running for two decades now, so rest assured they know what they’re doing.

HIV/AIDS volunteer work in Nepal - Projects Abroad

Here, you’ll be helping children with HIV/AIDS under the age of 10 in Kathmandu as part of the local community program.

The main emphasis is to provide the children with the care, support and treatment that they need - and you will help with this, along with daily educational activities and games to entertain them.

This program is a minimum of two weeks, and accommodation with a host family is included in the price.

Working with children in Tanzania - Love Volunteer

Help severely impoverished children in the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha.

Based at a local orphanage, you’ll work to lead the children to a happier and healthier life. You’ll stay in the program’s hostel with fellow volunteers as well, so there’s amazing opportunity to meet life-long friends.

All of Love Volunteer’s programs are really well-priced when compared to other organisations', so you’ll be sure to have some savings left for a holiday to the Serengeti National Park, which is just a stone’s throw away.

Community development expedition in Fiji - GVI Australia

You’ll be working on a number of key initiatives on the beautiful island of Fiji - from water management, to income generation, health awareness and sustainable agriculture.

This is hands-on work, so if you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, you’ll be helping to build rainwater tanks, plant vegetable gardens and help out in the community.

Plus, on the weekends, you can enjoy some island hopping to the stunning Fijian islands.

So what do you think? Is this kind of adventure for you? We'd love to hear your experiences if you've been on your own volunteering holiday.
