Let us introduce you to Possess the World

About PossesstheWorld

We are Possess the World, a couple of empty nesters travelling the world slowly, avoiding tour groups and having our gap years a bit late; we hope to inspire you to do the same. You can read about us on our blog

http://possesstheworld.com/about/

Possess the World, the blog inspiring Baby Boomers to travel independently.

To travel is to possess the world” is a phrase coined by the American traveller and writer Elias Burton Holmes (1870-1958), the creator of the travelogue. It seems appropriate that his saying lives on in the 21st century form of travelogues, or blogs.

We also found it true of us, because we possess the world each time we experience a new or favourite part of our wonderful planet - and hope you can, too!

Who are we?

We are Cath and Ian, an Aussie couple who love food, wine and travelling.

We have travelled together for the past five years, starting with a few weeks at a time. This year, we are travelling for the full 12 months.

We have learnt in our travels that experiencing destinations slowly is more enjoyable than running from city to city, to see the sites with all the other tour groups, battling for that perfect shot before moving on.

As more mature travellers, we want to eat better, sleep better, meet different people and see different sites to the backpacker. Dare we say, we want a more cultured, refined experience.

There's me, Cath, now in my 40s after working in health for 20 years while raising my family - and now having the gap year I never had. I'm ready for the next phase of my career, but also want to travel.

Ian, in his 60s, is lucky enough to have taken early retirement. He is the tech support and inspiration for getting Baby Boomers out of their comfort zone and into the world.

Neither of us are ready to be at home looking after grandkids, walking the dog and waiting for something exciting to happen.

Why have we started a blog?

By sharing our travel tales, tips and information, we want to inspire you to take the plunge and move from tourist to traveller.

We hope our narrative style travel tales will entertain you and give you some ideas for your own travels.

We believe that independent travel costs less and is more rewarding than a rushed tour.  We hope by sharing our experience you might give it a go.

The internet is full of blogs and advice sites, Possess The World is different because:

  • We recognise that the life experienced traveller is very different to the young backpacker
  • We give you honest information about where we have been, what we have seen and what we thought while there.
  • We want our travel tales and travel guides to:

  • Inspire you to have the confidence to try independent travel
  • Give you tips and links to reliable sources of information
  • Give you honest information about where we have been, what we have done and what we thought about destinations around the world
  • Help you access and use technology to support your travels
  • We can help you to:

  • Plan your travel
  • Travel for longer, cheaper
  • Experience  your chosen destination like a local
  • You can contact us by clicking on the links in the article.

To keep up with our travels you can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,Pinterest
