Remember when ... man walked on the moon?

About Flashback Fiona

I'm a bit of a history buff, with a love of all things retro and vintage.

Where were you on July 20, 1969, when man took his first step on the moon?

It was July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. A truly iconic moment in history.

Apollo 11 Lunar Landing | Flashback | NBC News

Eight years before, then president of the United States John F. Kennedy put forth a challenge to put man on the moon before the decade was out. So, that’s what NASA did.

Along with Michael Collins, the astronauts arrived in the moon’s orbit just four days after lifting off from Earth. Armstrong and Aldrin hopped in the lunar module, The Eagle, and descended onto the moon’s surface.

History will forever remember those powerful words spoken by Neil Armstrong that day, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

It sure makes me think back to a time where a country’s leader would inspire the people to do amazing, groundbreaking things - and not spread fear and hate.

Do you remember watching Neil Armstrong first walk on the moon?
