How to make your own compost bin

About Rachel

Learn to dispose of your food waste responsibly with this easy how-two video.

It’s so important that we all pitch in and do our bit for the environment. And one of the easiest ways to cut down on your waste is to make your very own compost!

This fantastic weekend activity to do with the kids or grandkids is such an easy process, plus it’s great for your garden.

How To Start Your Own Compost

Starting your own compost bin only requires a few things.

  • A bottomless bin.

  • 1 part ‘browns’ (dry sticks, paper, or dead leaves).

  • 1 part ‘greens’ (organic fruit and vegetable waste, coffee grounds, or grass clippings)

  • Water

Once you have these things ready, it’s just a matter of placing them all together. Watch this how-to video to see how it’s done.

After a few months, when your compost starts to become ‘humus’, you can then use it as an organic fertiliser to help your garden grow.

So this weekend, why not try lowering your carbon footprint and emissions from landfills by starting your own compost bin. The planet will thank you for it.
