Every dog lover has had that one four-legged mate who stood out from the pack. Tell us about them.

Dogs, they do an exceptional job - as lifesavers, protectors, healers, fitness buddies, work mates, comedians, therapists and all-round best friends.

Tell us about your all-time favourite four-legged friend.

And it seems that once in a lifetime, a dog will come along who stands out from the pack.

That one special critter who proves him or herself worthy of a title far greater than just dog. The one who seems almost human. The one who knows us better than anybody. The one who makes us laugh when all we want to do is cry. The one braver than a superhero. The one who has never left our heart ......

Well, we want to hear about all of them. In all their muddy-pawed, slobbery, waggy-tailed grandness. Tell us about that one special creature who perhaps saved your life, kept you sane through tough times or shielded your precious children from harm.

What made that dog special? How did they affect you? And how long were you together?

Please tell us. We're dying to read about all of them.

In fact, why not pay tribute by sharing your beloved memories AND a photo via your unique member dashboard. Just sign in and click the tile that says ''Share my story''.

The best will be published in coming weeks for our community's enjoyment.
