Christmas is a sham!

I have been seeing a lot of Christmas-based programs in the city these days. There are also different Christian denominations that are going gung-ho with the festivities.

What makes me sad, is the fact that most Christians don't know what Christmas is all about.

We also tend to get carried away with the shenanigans.

Here, I'd like to make a few points to back my argument and encourage debate on why I think Christmas is sham:

Firstly, Christmas is of heathen origin -- traced back to sun-worshippers and observed among the pagan nations. Many such pagan leaders' birthdays were celebrated by the ancient Babylonians. All of these pagan festivals originated in heathendom. Centuries later, the birth of Christ was blended into this -- and called Christmas. But through ignorance, the church has adopted it.

We have no Scriptural record that the disciples ever celebrated the birth of Christ. But we know the apostles and his followers remembered his death and resurrection.

The blending of Christ's birth with Christmas came about through the Catholics. The Catholic Church claims composition of choosing the name “Christ” to connect with their “mass.” Here we see that Christmas is of human invention.

It is often quoted that Jesus was born in a manger. This is not true. He was born in a stable and placed in a manger. This story is so misconstrued, and a mass of conglomeration has accumulated in the minds of the people.

The partiality that is exercised in the giving of gifts is another sign of Christmas failing to sync with scriptural principles. Why does one wait until the traditional month of December, wWhen often other seasons of the year would be more practical? Often, the method of giving fails to reveal the true spirit of charity. The major method of giving is to those whom we expect to receive again in return. This is also entirely beside the Scriptures.

Christmas today is commercial. Companies exploit it to make their millions in that short period of time. In doing so, enormous sums of money are spent on worthless gifts and toys of every description.

In addition, there is the overindulgence in nuts, sweets, roast turkey, seafood, ham and all other vain indulgences. Much of it results in headaches, stomach disorders and other ailments.

All this is outright heathendom and an insult to Christianity. The promotion of gluttony is wrong.

And you would not believe it, but companies love doing it to you. Because by the end of festivities, most of your savings end up on medical bills or a new gym membership. One needs those abs, not flabs.

Its time people sit up and take notice on what being a Christian is all about. Festivities can come later.
