Celebrity chef Anna Gare joins fight against hunger

About Foodbank

From humble beginnings, Foodbank has grown enormously to become the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia.

Foodbank is a conduit between the food industry’s surplus food and the welfare sector’s need to ensure all Australians have enough food to eat.

The Foodbank School Breakfast Program also provides breakfast to participating schools. We are also the largest provider of nutrition education and healthy eating programs.

Anna Gare joins with Foodbank WA to help ensure no one is turned away empty-handed in a time of need -- especially at Christmas.

Sadly, while most of us will be enjoying good company and food with family and friends this Christmas, more than 94,000 West Australians, one-third of them children, will be relying on Foodbank WA for some food and cheer.

With demand for services reaching unprecedented levels, the not-for-profit  is expecting to distribute more than one million meals this festive season -- and is in desperate need of more food.

"It’s been a tough year for many families across Western Australia and Christmas can be a particularly challenging time for those struggling to make ends meet. Often it comes down to deciding whether to pay the rent and power bills, put food on the table or buy some presents," said Foodbank WA CEO Greg Hebble.

"We urgently need key staples like baked beans, spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, canned fruit and vegetables, flour, pasta sauce, oats and canned soup. Some festive treats would be greatly appreciated as well, things like ham in a can, Christmas cakes and puddings, fruit mince pies, and custard will help give some West Australians a little joy"

Celebrity chef Anna Gare has signed on as Foodbank WA’s latest ambassador and has helped launch its  Christmas Appeal.

Keeping food and home close to her heart, the self-acclaimed ‘food-centric’ star is working with Foodbank WA to raise awareness and funds to ensure that no one is turned away empty handed in times of need.

"I’d encourage local businesses, sporting clubs and anyone who can, to organise a festive food drive by simply collecting non-perishable food and donating it to us. We can then hopefully fill our shelves in time for Christmas and pass it on to families in need. Or non-perishable food can be deposited in the Giving Boxes located at Hawaiian shopping centres across Perth" Mr Hebble said.

Alternatively, you can also help the children who won’t be eating this Christmas by donating directly to Foodbank WA. It’s amazing how a little can go such a long way, a simple $10 donation can feed 20 children who are going hungry. To donate visit http://bit.ly/2sjyF2W
