Beloved street food a perfect weekend brekkie

About Thomas

I write because I can type. I can type because I have a keyboard.

I am a new age Australian resident that is experiencing this new continent with a fresh set of eyes.

I write on a wide range of topics. Well, I write on food. There you have it, I write on a wide range of food as well.

The Indian street food kheema pav is perfect with eggs on a weekend -- and already has my mouth watering.

It used to be one of my weekend rituals to go to a local restaurant to have kheema pav and eggs with a couple of friends and roomies. Those were the days.

Kheema pav is even more delicious with a poached egg or two.

A popular street food in India, kheema (minced meat) pav (bread) is a robust, peppery curry dish made with minced chicken or lamb, cooked with onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and earthy spices!

Served with lightly toasted buns (pav) brushed with butter or homemade ghee on the griddle, it's a blissful meal!

It is quite easy to make, too.

For a serving for 4 people, this is what you have to do.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, grated - Garlicious Grown
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 2 plum tomatoes, diced
  • 2 teaspoon Kashmiri chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 heaped tablespoons coriander powder (I lightly toasted the coriander seeds and then ground them)
  • 500g chicken or beef mince
  • 1/2 cup coriander, chopped for garnish
  • 100g green peas
  • To serve:

  • 1 tablespoon butter or ghee
  • Buns
  • Method

  • Add oil to a wok or pot and let it get hot.
  • Add cumin seeds and toast them for 30 seconds.
  • Add turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Add ginger and garlic, mix well.
  • Add onion and sauté for a minute. Cook covered for 2 minutes with a glass lid on.
  • Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, garam masala, salt and coriander powder. Mix well.
  • Add mince and break it with a spatula. Add 1/2 cup of water (You can add 2 tablespoons of water for a thicker curry).
  • Add green peas
  • Cook for 10-12min, ensuring that the lid is closed. After that, removed lid and stir the mixture, letting it cook for another 3-4 minutes
  • Garnish with coriander and serve hot with buns lightly toasted with some ghee on a griddle. And we have a street food that is filling and so yummy you will ask for more.

P.S: Add 1-2 spicy green chillies for a spicier kheema.

So try it today and tell us what you think?
