Your suggestions for must-read books!

There's nothing better than a lazy day, one where you can put your feet up with a good book in hand.

And with the weekend nearly here, we asked our  Facebook followers to recommend their favourite books.

Here are their answers:

Our Souls At Night, by Kent Haruf. (Suggested by Donna)

Why? "It is a book that is easy to read but still so true of our lives and families. It begs the question: 'Why can't children let their parents be happy even if they don't agree with them'."

To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. (Suggested by Thomas)

Jessika, by Bryce Courtney. (Suggested by Margaret)

My Place, by Sally Morgan. (Suggested by Maxi)

Why? "Every Australian should read this book. In fact, it should be on the school curriculum."

On The Road, by Jack Kerouac. (Suggested by Kenley)

Why? "Changed my life. Packed a bag, got a truck across Australia, was in Melbourne in 24 hours. Am still into Kerouac, Ginsberg and the Beats."

My Suggestion:

Jasper Jones, by Craig Silvey.

I studied this book in high school and thoroughly enjoyed it, some describe it as an Australian To Kill A Mockingbird. I have read both and in my opinion, Jasper Jones is better, with loveable side characters and plot line, but with similar, important themes.
