A truly touching Christmas story from Ys partner charity, Cystic Fibrosis WA.

As Christmas approaches, traditionally our work at Cystic Fibrosis WA slows down. We take the opportunity to catch up on our filing and archiving,

It was while doing that this week that I came across a truly amazing Christmas story.
In 2012, Cystic Fibrosis WA entered an international competition to write a short poem about our work, a competition run by the CTK Foundation in the USA.
We put together a poem that was inspired by a young boy living with CF who came into my office just before Christmas that year.
I asked him what he wanted for Christmas, he smiled though his pain an discomfort and said simply: "A day off, please".

Sadly, he is no longer with us.

This poem is for him:

Pounding purging, coughing, splurging
Rubbing, hitting, gasping, spitting,
Breathless breathing
Constant yearning.

One day off is all I need,

One day’s living free of care,
One day as a normal child
A chance to steal some cool, clear air.
Happy Christmas everyone, especially all you lovely people at Ys.

May 2018 bring us ever closer to our vision of a world where lives are unaffected by CF.
