I am not a big fan of the term feminism.

It’s a great thing that women today are standing up for their rights, with the world a better place when they are treated fairly and equally. But not under the shadow or pretext of calling it feminism.

Let’s take the case of actress Lena Dunham. It's a simple and recent example.

She is a beacon of feminism. I am yet to see an article where she has not posed nude. On countless occasions, she has talked about woman power and loving one’s own body, sparked unnecessary controversies and made scandalous TV shows.

The surprising thing, is that in recent times she has not had a break from apologising for various incidents, ranging from making racial slurs to supporting a sexual predator who she thought was a ''great guy''.

This is what happens when you coin liberal terms. It gives people the right to misuse them. If women today feel overpowered, it is not because man is stronger. It is because you allowed them to rule over you. You did not rebel against the conventions like many did.

Take, for example, the Greek civilisation – the women in many areas had the same, if not more, rights than men. Or the Egyptians, their main god was a woman, Isis (a very unfortunate name today). In India, they have an equal number of female deities as the male one. So it is not the matter of equality. It is about taking it by breaking the constraints put on it.

I can give you three examples of women who have inspired me, but not under the cloud of feminism.

There are  many other examples of women that can I use in this instance as well.

But then again, I do not understand what the point is if one does not draw inspiration from them. It's more powerful to call oneself a 'woman'.

Being feminine is a trait and feminism an offshoot of that. It brings you down.

You are not supposed to be overwhelmed. You are the powerful woman who should overcome everything -- not fall for a cloud of a term to define who you are.
